Drone Autonomy Suite

Drone Autonomous Target Tracking

A drone detects a moving ground target, follows it autonomously and keeps the gimbal locked while continuing its mission without continuous operator control.

Platform
Multirotor tactical UAS with EO/IR gimbal

What is demonstrated

This demonstration shows the Neuronic Drone Autonomy Suite following a detected ground target autonomously, controlling the gimbal to hold the target in frame and continuing the mission without stick input from the operator.

Capability

Autonomous target following, area-of-interest tracking, coupled gimbal control and mission continuation under reduced operator attention.

Why it is operationally useful

Manual target following consumes a trained pilot and still loses the target during manoeuvres. Autonomous following frees the operator to work the mission picture instead of flying the aircraft.

Scenario

Mission sequence

  1. 01The drone executes an assigned reconnaissance route.
  2. 02Onboard analytics detect and classify a moving ground target.
  3. 03The operator confirms the target of interest.
  4. 04Autonomy takes over following and standoff geometry.
  5. 05The gimbal holds the target centred through aircraft manoeuvres.
  6. 06The mission continues without continuous operator control.

The aircraft is flying an assigned reconnaissance route under onboard autonomy.

Neuronic video analytics detect a moving vehicle and classify it, and the detection is presented to the operator.

The operator confirms the target. From this point the aircraft manages its own position and standoff distance.

The gimbal is slaved to the track, so the target stays centred while the aircraft manoeuvres.

Position and video continue to flow to command and control while the operator works other assets.

When following ends, the aircraft resumes the assigned route autonomously.
